Casillas hopes Atleti trip up Barca

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas is hoping city rivals Atletico can upset Barcelona on Sunday night.

Atleti and League leaders Barca go into the game separated by six points, with Madrid a further five points behind.

“Obviously I would like both of them to lose because they are ahead of us in the standings,” Casillas commented. “But that is not possible. Therefore by personal interest, what is more desirable is that Barca lose points.”

The 31-year-old was speaking at an awards ceremony thrown by AS, where he was recognised as one of the athletes of the year.

“I want to savour this and enjoy it. People have in mind what I have done this year and have rewarded my work. We have made great achievements and that has had a positive impact. I want to thank Real Madrid, the Spanish people and everyone who voted.”

Casillas was also asked about his relationship with teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, after reports of friction between the two.

“Whether I celebrate goals or not has nothing to do with Cristiano. There are times when letting in goals hurts as a goalkeeper and I am very strict with myself. At other times I have celebrated them. The good things that happen to Cristiano are also good things for Real Madrid.”
