Hapoel-Athletic next Wednesday

Athletic Bilbao’s postponed Europa League encounter with Hapoel Kiryat Shmona will take place next Wednesday in Haifa.

The game was originally scheduled to be played last night, but was called off on Wednesday due to the conflict in Gaza and a bus bombing in Tel-Aviv, the city the Basque side planned to fly into.

UEFA have today announced details of the rescheduling, with a 21.05 kick off time pencilled in, two hours later than originally planned.

Despite the ceasefire in the Gaza conflict Athletic are thought to have wanted the match played at a neutral venue, or scrapped altogether seeing as it’s a dead rubber Lyon and Sparta Prague’s draw last night eliminating Los Leones from the competition.

The rescheduling has a knock on affect as Marcelo Bielsa’s side were supposed to be playing Eibar in the second leg of their Copa del Rey last 32 tie that night. A new date will now have to be found for that fixture.
