Khedira follows BVB example

Real Madrid's German midfielder Sami Khedira says Borussia Dortmund have provided the template of how to play away to Manchester City.

Dortmund, who took four points off Madrid in their recent double header in Champions League Group D, comprehensively outplayed City in Manchester earlier in the campaign, the English champions fortunate to escape with a 1-1 draw.

And ahead of the Merengues visit to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, where they will seek to secure their qualification to the last 16, Khedira is taking inspiration from his countrymen's exploits.

“Dortmund showed how you can cope there, playing compactly, fighting for every ball and trying to impose your game,” the former Stuttgart man stated in an interview with Bwin.

“Ultimately we must not be influenced by our rivals, but impose our own attacking potential.”

City have been the surprise flop of the 'Group of death' and go into the game with only a very slim chance of qualifying, but Khedira is unwilling to write off a team replete with such individual talent.

“They have great quality and players that can decide any game. Though not all of their forwards play at once, we have to be very careful and try to control them, because they are among the best in the world.”

Real are currently second in Group D with seven points, one behind Dortmund and five ahead of City.
