Ronaldo: Neymar should leave Brazil

Former Barcelona and Real Madrid star Ronaldo believes Neymar should leave Brazil to further his football education.

Ronaldo, 36, retired from professional football in February 2011 and his consulting company 9ine has a contract with the Santos player.

“Neymar is delaying his development as a football by not playing in Europe,” he told a Press conference in Porto Alegre where he was promoting the 10th edition of the annual Football Against Poverty game that will be played in the city on December 19.

“His ambition is to be the best in the world, so the natural thing would be for him to go to Europe and play with a great team where he can compete with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for that title.”

However, Ronaldo did concede that it was an ‘honour’ for him to watch Neymar performing every week in his native country.

Neymar has been constantly linked with a transfer to either Madrid or Barca, with Chelsea also waiting in the wings before he makes up his mind in which direction his future lies.
