Mou defiant after no-show

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has defended himself from criticism regarding his no-show at a club presentation earlier today.

Speaking at an official Press conference ahead of tomorrow's Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund at the Bernabeu, the strategist was asked why he had failed to attend the ceremony - where the club's plans to build new quarters for youth team players at the Valdebebas training complex were unveiled.

“I was invited, but the day before a game I have to work,” declared Mourinho. “I've been criticised, but I would also have been criticised if I did attend, for not thinking about the game.”

The Portuguese dismissed rumours linking him with Paris Saint-Germain and confirmed that Raphael Varane would start but compatriot Karim Benzema would not.

“Borussia are a team that has won two Leagues in Germany and they are leading the group. They are a very strong team with creative players, quick and straight forward. If they get to the second round, they will be a candidate to win the competition.

“This is a tough group, where any point you get is good and losing is bad. All teams are at risk. Borussia and Real are doing better, but City can come back. We are playing at home and hope to do well.”
