Victor Ruiz goal against Barca legal

TV replays have confirmed that Victor Ruiz’s disallowed goal for Valencia in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Barcelona should have stood.

El Dia Despues used Libero Vision – ground-breaking technology that views controversial or tactically interesting football scenes from an arbitrary viewpoint – to rule on what would have been the equaliser at the Camp Nou.

A side angle showed that when a Valencia free-kick was taken, central defender Ruiz was not in an offside position and was, in fact, being played marginally onside by Barcelona striker Adriano.

Valencia President Manuel Llorente subsequently complained that his team always seemed to be the victim of contentious decisions against both Barcelona and Real Madrid.

It is not the first time this season that Tito Vilanova’s men have benefited from a mistake by officials, having seen Alexis Sanchez’s equalising goal the previous week at Osasuna allowed to stand after he had received a pass from Lionel Messi.
