Liverpool have edge on Sahin

Liverpool look to have won the race to sign Nuri Sahin from Real Madrid on loan, as manager Brendan Rodgers confirms.

The Turkish midfielder has been strongly linked with both the Reds and Arsenal this summer, as his career in Spain looks to have hit a temporary stop through injury and form.

Real are keen to send him out on loan and have been reported to have held talks with both Premier League sides this month, with the player understood to prefer the Gunners, and his club pushing for a move to Anfield.

The club look to have gotten their way, as Rodgers confirmed after Liverpool’s Europa League tie last night.

“Hopefully in the next 24 hours we'll get some confirmation on that. It's quite far [along the line]. He's a very good footballer,” he told post-match reporters.
