Valencia clinch Cissokho deal

Valencia have confirmed the capture of 24-year-old full-back Aly Cissokho from Ligue 1 outfit Lyon.

Los Che were reported last week by Lyon to have opened negotiations for the in-demand left-sided defender, who has also previously been linked with Milan and clubs in England.

The Spaniards have won the race, however, and have officially confirmed via their website the capture of the defender, who will serve as a direct replacement for Jordi Alba.

“Valencia and Lyon have reached an agreement for the signing of French international football Aly Cissokho for the next four seasons,” read the posting.

“The agreement is subject to the player successfully completing medical examinations.”

Valencia’s sporting director Braulio Vazquez also commented on the move.

“He is a player with extensive international experience, despite his youth, who has already played for the French national team and has played in top-level competition such as the Champions League.

“Cissokho is physically a wonder, very strong defensively and comes to increase our options in the team, especially on the left.

“Along with Mathieu, we have the position covered extremely well. His addition completes a highly strengthened squad in all areas and we are extremely excited because we have a lot of quality in each position now.

“We look at the present with optimism for the fans’ enjoyment and we can achieve great goals this season.”

The club are reported to have paid somewhere in the region of €6m for Cissokho.
