Ex-Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea ‘very close’ to agreeing deal with Serie A side

Former Manchester United and Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David de Gea looks to be closing in on a return to football, after a year out of the game following his Old Trafford exit. De Gea failed to agree terms with anyone during the last two transfer windows, but it looks as if he might finally be back in action this summer.

De Gea, 33, broke through at Atletico Madrid, and spent most of his career at Manchester United, but did not manage to find a club last summer, despite interest from Saudi Arabia. As per Matteo Moretto, he is now very close to reaching an agreement with Fiorentina on a contract, after weeks of negotiations.

It remains to be seen what kind of shape he will be in by the time he returns. De Gea has not been in the Spain squad since 2021, and has not made an appearance since 2020, but does have 45 caps to his name. It seems unlikely that Luis de la Fuente would call him up again, but the pair have worked together in Spain’s youth categories too.
