Getafe lose key midfielder for rest of the season with knee injury

Getafe are once again lamenting their luck with long-term injuries, after Mauro Arambarri underwent surgery on Tuesday for knee issues.

The Uruguayan midfielder only played 13 times last season, but missed the World Cup and the rest of the season with an ankle issue. This season he has made just 7 appearances, but is unlikely to play again this campaign.

Arambarri was taken off, seemingly without injury according to Cadena Cope, on Saturday at half-time. However since Getafe have revealed that Arambarri has suffered a partially torn meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament, which will rule him out for 6-8 months.

The 28-year-old Uruguayan international was one of Jose Bordalas’ best players during his first spell at the club. It leaves him with just three natural central midfielders in Carles Alena, Nemanja Maksimovic and Luis Milla, although Djene, Omar Alderete, Oscar Rodriguez and Jose Angel Carmona have all filled in there in the past. Arambarri joins Enes Unal on the sidelines, who suffered an ACL injury in April last season.

  1. I’m sure there’s an out of work wrestler or rugby player that can fill the void. It’s not like Getafe are actually playing football or anything, so dribbling, passing, possession etc. wouldn’t be too overly important. As long as you can maul your opponent and waste time you should be fine.
