Barcelona appear to be closing in on a new contract for Ronald Araujo.

The situation surrounding the centre-back‘s future was an uncertain one following an initial rejection.

Barca put in a low offer as they look to keep cash aside for summer signings, but Araujo wasn’t going to fall for it, well aware of how important he has become at Camp Nou.

With his contract up in 2023, his rejection sparked transfer rumours, but it seems all is well.

According to Sport, Barca chief Mateu Alemany, who is on a mission this week as far as contracts are concerned, met with Araujo’s agent today.

It’s reported the meeting, which took place at Barcelona-based restaurant Sushi 99, went swimmingly well – if you’ll pardon the pun.

It’s claimed both sides are now confident a deal can be agreed ahead of talks continuing.

That’s big news for Barca, and indeed Xavi Hernandez, with Araujo key to the club’s defensive plans.
