Barcelona all-but agree new contract with key star after fresh talks

Barcelona are said to have all-but agreed a new contract for Ronald Araujo.

The centre-back is on course to be out of contract in 2023, and his rejection of Barca‘s initial offer led to a number of transfer links.

But following a fresh meeting today between Araujo’s representatives and Barca chief Mateu Alemany, an agreement of sorts has been reached.

According to Sport, the Blaugrana are on the edge of a total agreement, with the main obstacles now in the rear-view mirror.

Barca are now in agreement over the defender’s new salary, and while the length of the contract is still to be agreed, the final talks are not expected to bring any fresh obstacles.

Both parties are now said to be happy with the situation and Araujo is now set to continue at Camp Nou in the long term.

That will be great news for Barca and Xavi Hernandez, with Araujo a key member of the club’s back-line.

It will also be good news for Araujo, who is believed to have wanted to stay at Camp Nou all along.
