Villarreal boss Unai Emery installed as favourite for Newcastle United job

Villarreal boss Unai Emery has emerged as a possible candidate for the vacant Newcastle United job.

Emery is starting to come under pressure at Estadio de la Ceramica amid a disastrous start to the campaign.

The former Arsenal and PSG boss brought Villarreal their first ever European title last season by winning the Europa League.

And that has bought him some time, but the Yellow Submarine spend significantly to improve their squad over the summer after finishing seventh in La Liga last term, and Emery has failed to improve his team.

Villarreal have won just three of their first 11 games in La Liga this season, currently sitting in 13th place, and they suffered a costly derby defeat to Valencia over the weekend.

Ahead of a crucial Champions League clash with Young Boys, Emery remains safe for now, but in the meantime, he is being linked with the vacant Newcastle United job.

The Magpies have been without a manager since Steve Bruce was sent on his way last month, and they are looking for a high-profile name to lead their new project following their Saudi takeover.

And many bookmakers, including Bet365, currently have Emery as the favourite to get the job with some odds as low as 2/1.

Roberto Martinez is also among the favourites, as well as former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca.
