The Argentinian international has endured a difficult start to life in Catalonia following his free transfer summer move from Manchester City.
A calf injury forced him to miss the first two months of 2021/22 before eventually making his debut last month.
However, despite scoring in La Blaugrana’s 2-1 El Clasico defeat, and making his Camp Nou debut against Alaves last weekend, he was forced off before half time against the Basque side.
Initial reports confirmed a concern over his breathing with the club medical team immediately requesting hospital tests to assess a possible heart rhythm problem.
Barcelona have released an official statement confirming the 33-year-old has undergone a ‘diagnostic procedure’ which is expected to be the first in a series of cardiac tests in the coming weeks.
