Espanyol drew 1-1 with Athletic Bilbao at the RCDE Stadium on Tuesday evening. Raul de Tomas put the hosts ahead from the spot in the 33rd minute only for Inaki Williams to equalise in the 52nd minute. De Tomas was then sent off in the 93rd minute.

The result leaves Espanyol tenth in La Liga, a point clear of Valencia and a point behind their great rivals Barcelona. They’ll be dreaming of finishing above their underperforming neighbours given their struggles in La Liga this season.
Athletic are three points ahead of them in seventh, and could have gone fourth – leapfrogging Osasuna, Real Betis and Atletico Madrid in the process – had they secured an away win.

Espanyol travel to Getafe next before welcoming Granada to their corner of Catalonia the following weekend. Athletic face Basque rivals Real Sociedad in San Sebastian next up before hosting Cadiz at San Mames in Bilbao the following Friday evening.
