Alaves beat Elche 1-0 at Mendizorroza to climb out of the bottom three

Alaves beat Elche 1-0 at Mendizorroza in La Liga on Tuesday. Mamadou Loum N’Diaye fired the hosts into the lead two minutes into the second half, securing victory given Guido Carrillo’s equaliser nine minutes from time was disallowed by VAR.

Elche dominated 62% of possession but Alaves were more effective in the final third. The hosts had five shots on target compared to Alaves’ one, registering four shots off target.

The result is big for Alaves. It takes them out of the bottom three and into 16th, jumping ahead of Cadiz and Granada. Elche are a point and a place ahead of Alaves, level with Celta Vigo. Both sides have endured a difficult start to the 2021/22 season and will view it as a success if they beat the drop.

Alaves travel to Barcelona this weekend before hosting Levante in the first Saturday of November. Elche host Real Madrid next before travelling to the Balearic Islands to take on Mallorca.
