Barcelona following Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic

Barcelona are scouting Fiorentina central defender Nikola Milenkovic as they look to bolster their backline, say El Mundo Deportivo.

The Blaugrana may even push to sign the Serbian in the January transfer window, as our sister site Football Italia cites La Nazione as reporting last week.

Milenkovic has caught the eye with his performances this season, becoming an ever-present in the Viola’s defence and showing his goalscoring threat – netting three times this campaign.

The Catalan giants reportedly want to strengthen their central defensive ranks with Samuel Umtiti suffering from long-term injury and fitness issues while Gerard Pique is also in the autumn of his career.

No transfer fee has been attached to the central defender but whilst Fiorentina are likely to hold out for a high price, they are unlikely to reject all approaches.

Milenkovic joined Fiorentina from Partizan Belgrade in a €5m deal in 2017 and has become a regular for the Italian club since and has previously been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid or Manchester United.
