David Gallego set for Espanyol dismissal

Espanyol will fire manager David Gallego later this week according to reports in Mundo Deportivo.

The Catalan newspaper has confirmed rumours that Gallego will be relieved of his position by club president Chen Yansheng in the coming days, following a poor start to the 2019-20 season.

Gallego took over the role at the RCE Stadium in the summer, joining from relegated Huesca, after fans favourite Rubi opted to move on to Real Betis.

However a 2-0 weekend defeat at home to newly promoted Real Mallorca has pushed Espanyol down into the relegation zone ahead of the international break

They have won just one La Liga game so far this season, despite getting through the qualifying rounds of the Europa League, and picking up four group stage points against Ferencvaros and CSKA Moscow.

The club are yet to confirm the end for Gallego, or who his potential replacement may be at this stage, but MD have reported that former Girona boss Pablo Machin is the front runner when Gallego's exit is confirmed.
