David De Gea replaceable at Manchester United – Van der Sar

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar has warned David De Gea he is not irreplaceable at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard’s form has nosedived over the past 18 months and he has lost his number one spot as the international goalkeeper to Chelsea counterpart Kepa Arrizabalaga.

There have been question marks over his future at the Red Devils with his contract expiring in June 2020 and making multiple errors in recent matches.

“The decision will have to come at some point,” Van der Sar – who won multiple trophies across six years in Manchester – is cited as saying by Marca when asked over De Gea’s future at Old Trafford.

“It takes a long time, so it is a yes or no decision. But I am not a manager of Manchester United, but other goalkeepers can fill the void.

“There are goalkeepers in the Premier League who are playing in clubs that want to step forward, I went to Manchester as a 34-year-old, so there are many opportunities there.

“De Gea has been at a high level for a long time and at certain points you realise, maybe not the first two but when people start writing about it. But he will be fine because he is a great goalkeeper.”
