Real Madrid’s Luka Modric sidelined by injury

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric is facing an injury layoff after tweaking the adductor muscle in his right leg, it has been confirmed.

The Croatian star will now be forced out of the weekend clash against Levante – the second game he will miss this season after being suspended for the recent draw against Real Valladolid.

“The Real Madrid player, Luka Modric, suffers a muscle injury in the adductor of his right leg, read a Real Madrid club statement as reported by Cadena Cope.

“The Croatian who is celebrating his 34th birthday will not be able to participate in this Saturday's match against Levante. The timing of the return of his injury is pending evolution.”

Modric was sent-off on the opening day 3-1 victory over Celta Vigo while Madrid have not won in either of their following two matches – held by both Valladolid and Villarreal.

There have been a raft of injuries to first-team squad players in the opening weeks of the campaign including Brahim Diaz, Eden Hazard, James Rodriguez and Ferland Mendy, while Gareth Bale is also suspended following a dismissal against Villarreal late on.
