Zinedine Zidane loses untouchable Real Madrid status

Zinedine Zidane has lost his untouchable status among Real Madrid’s fanbase, according to a fresh report in Marca.

The Frenchman returned to the club in March when Los Blancos were in total disarray, with no turnaround in results in the closing months of last season.

However, Madrid invested €300m in new signings this summer with a series of exits from the first-team squad, but no new signing has started in either of the first two league games.

A routine win at Celta Vigo on the opening day of the season showed signs of encouragement but a follow up draw at home to Real Valladolid meant that early discontent is not far around the corner.

It follows a lackluster pre-season for the club – including an embarrassing 7-3 loss against Atletico Madrid – which meant that there were already question marks before the season began.

Despite the changes in summer, Madrid were not able to land number one transfer target Paul Pogba from Manchester United while Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez – two players that Zidane wished to sell – remain.
