Real Madrid are ‘not as good as other teams’ according to their former forward and sporting director Predrag Mijatovic.
Mijatovic scored the goal to land the 1998 Champions League title for the club and later worked in a sporting director role for the club between 2006 and 2009.
Madrid have spent €300m in new signings this summer including on Eden Hazard, Ferland Mendy, Eder Militao and Luka Jovic, but none have started in either of the side’s first two league matches this campaign.
Hazard has been ruled out through injury but looks likely to return to action at Villarreal on Sunday, but none of the other new arrivals are guaranteed starters.
“If the team stays as it is, it can compete but we cannot be very optimistic and think that we are the best nor that we will win many titles,” Mijatovic told Cadena Ser, as cited by Diario AS.
“We will compete, but there are teams that are better.
“Let's see if they incorporate someone in the remainder of the summer although I am not optimistic.
“In the centre of the midfield there is a weakness and there are not many alternatives. Another midfielder would benefit the squad.
“If Neymar arrives for sure that would make things more interest, I would like to see him at Real Madrid.”
