Sevilla give up on PSV winger Steven Bergwijn

Sevilla have admitted defeat in their attempts to sign PSV Eindhoven winger and Dutch international Steve Bergwijn, according to reports.

Estadio Deportivo say the Dutch giants were demanding €40m for the player, with Sevilla offering no more than €30m in front with €4m in add-ons.

Bergwijn, 21, has a contract until 2022 and has a reported market value of €35m – meaning that he would have become the Andalusian club’s record transfer.

However, Sevilla are now instead thought to be turning their attention to signing Rony Lopes from Monaco as Wissam Ben Yedder moves to the Ligue 1 club.

Sevilla have already made 11 summer signings, spending over €120m on the likes of Moanes Dabour, Diego Carlos, Joan Jordan, Jules Kounde, Fernando, Luuk de Jong, Lucas Ocampos, Oliver Torres and Sergio Reguilon.

Previous reports claimed Dutch international Bergwijn could act as a replacement for Pablo Sarabia, who left Los Rojiblancos to join Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth €20m this summer.

Bergwijn played 41 games last season, 23 as left winger and 18 on the right flank. He netted 15 goals and provided 13 assists.

He scored the third goal as PSV beat rivals Ajax 3–0 to clinch the 2017–18 Eredivisie title and has won six caps for the Netherlands.
