Donny van de Beek ‘staying at Ajax’ – boss

Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag is growing confident Donny van de Beek will stay at the club next season amid interest from Real Madrid.

“I guess he will stay at Ajax this season. Otherwise, I will hear from (Ajax sporting director) Marc Overmars,” Ten Hag is cited as saying by Diario AS.

Marca and Diario AS both led their Friday coverage last week with the news that the Dutchman is the most likely midfield reinforcement to join Los Blancos this month.

The 22-year-old Dutch international netted 17 goals last season, including the only goal in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Tottenham.

It is said that the Dutch champions value the midfielder at €65m but Madrid do not want to pay in excess of €50m to secure his signature.

The report continues that the midfielder is viewed as a cheaper alternative to Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, who could cost a minimum of €150m.

Van de Beek’s teammate Frenkie de Jong has already agreed an €86m switch to Barcelona this summer.

The central midfielder has spent the entirety of his professional career at the Amsterdam-based giants and has won international recognition for the Netherlands.

Madrid have spent over €300m in transfer fees already this summer with Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Ferland Mendy, Rodrygo Goes and Eder Militao among the arrivals.
