Antoine Griezmann: Barcelona do not need Neymar

Antoine Griezmann has downplayed suggestions that Barcelona need to sign Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

The French forward – a €120m summer signing from Atletico Madrid – spoke of ‘the complicated’ nature of the operation to bring the former Santos star from the French capital.

The Brazilian left the Camp Nou for Paris in a world record €222m deal two years ago but has been heavily linked with a return this summer.

“Before speaking of this, the first thing to note is that the operation would have to be completed because it is a complicated transfer,” Griezmann told reporters, as cited by Diario AS, when asked how a Barca attack could appear with the Brazilian’s inclusion.

“But he is a good player, he has had a couple of injuries but he is still at an incredible level.

“You must remember we also have (Ousmane) Dembélé, (Philippe) Coutinho and Malcom, who are important to us and we hope to be able to do great things with them.”

Griezmann is likely to be competing for a first-team spot alongside Dembele, Coutinho and Luis Suarez, with Lionel Messi still the focal point of the side’s attack.
