Espanyol want Hatem Ben Arfa

Espanyol are considering a move for former French international Hatem Ben Arfa.

Manager David Gallego has reportedly asked the club's board to assess whether or not they can afford a move to bring him to Spain, from Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais.

They have received €25m from the sale of defender Mario Hermoso to Atletico Madrid, and they are in negotiations with Real Betis over their top scorer from the 2018-19 season, Borja Iglesias.

These key departures have led Gallego to look at moving into the transfer market, and according to reports in French newspaper L'Equipe, Ben Arfa is the player he wants to lead their Europa League campaign in 2019-20.

Ben Arfa, who has one year left on his contract in France, has also been linked with fellow La Liga sides Real Betis and Leganes – however the Catalan side are hopeful that the lure of European football will be the key to bringing the former Marseille midfielder to the RCDE Stadium.
