Girona have completed the signing of midfielder Samu Saiz from English side Leeds United, the club have confirmed.
Saiz previously spent two years of his career at Getafe between 2011 and 2013 but was mainly used in their B team, before later moving on to Atletico Madrid and Huesca.
The central midfielder joined the Yorkshire side in a €3.5m deal in 2017 and made 58 appearances in England, netting ten goals.
The move to Leeds was fueled by his excellent campaign in Spain’s second tier with Huesca, when he scored 12 goals in the 2016/17 season.
The Madrid-born player was involved in the Oikos operation related to match-fixing in Spain and he indeed went to testify voluntarily to prove his innocence. After answering the questions he was released.
It has been said that Saiz’s alleged involvement in the scandal saw him rejected by Spanish top flight clubs this summer.
