Tottenham talk with Real Madrid over Gareth Bale return

Tottenham Hotspur want to re-sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid and are prepared to pay between €50m and €60m, report Marca.

It is claimed that the North London club have already told Madrid their intentions as the Welshman’s future appears to finally have some direction following a long impasse.

The major stumbling block to any deal is the player’s wage bill – Spurs have made it clear that they cannot pay his fixed annual salary of €17m plus variables, but a compromise agreement may be reached.

The Welsh wizard celebrates his 30th birthday on Tuesday and is not part of Zinedine Zidane’s plans at the Bernabeu, while the Madrid fans have turned on him.

Bale has three years remaining on his Madrid contract and earns €17m annually, meaning that he has no strong desire to exit the club this summer despite the wishes of the hierarchy in the Spanish capital – but could be tempted to return to London.

The Premier League transfer window closes on 8 August this summer and Madrid are now said to be working against this deadline to offload the player, who they are ‘increasingly desperate’ to transfer.

The former Southampton and Spurs winger scored 14 goals with six assists in 42 competitive games last season.
