Spain have full confidence in Robert Moreno – Luis Rubiales

Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales has insisted new Spain boss Robert Moreno has the ‘full confidence’ of all in the federation.

Luis Enrique had to step down from the position after 11 months in charge due to a private personal issue with his long-serving number two now inheriting the role.

“Luis Enrique announces that he will not continue as Coach,” Rubiales has said, as cited by Marca.

“You (the press) have respected this situation a lot, you will continue to respect him in the same way. I have to thank Luis Enrique, he has been with the Federation and we will always have the doors of the Federation and the national team open for him.

“We believe in this team, we want to continue counting on this team. In a moment of tremendous difficulty we want to confirm that we have the commitment of these professionals, both Molina and I believe that they are great professionals to follow this work.

“Robert as Coach, with the same times as the contract (as number two) that was signed, he will be in charge of taking us to the European Championship and to play a strong tournament – we have total confidence in him.

“This is a decision of Luis Enrique himself, to whom we thank all the work he has done, he has been a magnificent professional.

“We called the captains 15 minutes before this and there is no doubt about how Robert works.”
