Juan Mata to sign three-year Manchester United contract

Juan Mata has agreed to sign a three-year contract extension at Manchester United to end speculation on his future, say Diario Sport.

The 31-year-old’s deal at Old Trafford expires at the end of June and he is currently available to speak to other clubs.

It is also claimed by the report that Mata will continue in a non-playing capacity at United once he hangs up his boots, with this contract possibly his last as a player.

It has been reported that the playmaker was wanted by Barcelona but the Catalan giants have had a change of heart and instead are focusing on signing players of a younger profile to rejuvenate their squad.

Mata has netted 45 goals across 218 first-team appearances for the Red Devils and has 10 goals from 41 international caps with Spain.

His compatriot Ander Herrera has already left Old Trafford following the expiration of his contract this summer.

The playmaker initially moved to English football in 2011, joining Chelsea from Valencia, before a £37m transfer to Manchester United in January 2014.
