Gelson Martins wants to leave Atletico Madrid this summer, and return to Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.
According to reports in Portuguese newspaper, Martins wants to make his loan move to France a permanent one before the start of the 2019-20 season, after joining Leonardo Jardim's side in January.
"I will have to wait and see if I return to Monaco.
"They want me to come back, and I do not want to return to Atletico Madrid."
Martins signed for Los Rojiblancos at the start of the 2018-19 campaign, but after making just eight La Liga appearances, Diego Simeone decided to allow the Portuguese international to leave on a four month loan.
With his chances likely to be limited at the Wanda Metropolitano next season, even if Antoine Griezmann leaves, the 24-year old believes it is not the place for him.
"I am still the same player that I was last year, that has not changed.
"But my characteristics do not fit into Simeone's team, as they are very defensive.
"When I signed, Simeone told me that I would play a lot as as they look to play a counter attack style, but I was mainly used as a substitute.
"I am a little disappointed in Simeone."
