West Ham sign goalkeeper Roberto

West Ham have completed the signing of experienced goalkeeper Roberto on a free transfer following his release from Espanyol.

The East London club confirmed the news via their own website with the shot-stopper signing a two-year deal with the option of a further season.

Roberto began his career at Atletico Madrid must is most well-known for his stints at Benfica, Real Zaragoza and Olympiakos.

Most recently, the 33-year-old was on a loan stint at Malaga from Espanyol last season – making 34 appearances – before returning to the Catalan side this summer, but having just six outings.

Roberto has four league titles to his name – one in Portugal and three in Greece – and joined Espanyol in the summer of 2016 in a €3m deal.

“From the beginning when I knew I was going to come here, I was very excited about the new experience,” Roberto is cited as saying by West Ham media.

“I consider this step a big step in my career. I think everyone who follows football knows the importance of this Club, so I’m really excited.

“I am looking forward to playing in the Premier League, of course. It’s a big challenge as I consider this to be one of the two best and biggest leagues in the world, with our league in Spain, and I think it’s a dream for every player to come here and play in the Premier League, so I’m looking forward to getting started.”
