Bernard Mensah leaves Atletico Madrid after four years, no games

Midfielder Bernard Mensah has left Atletico Madrid after four years without ever playing a game for the club, it has been confirmed.

The Ghanaian midfielder had been on loan at Kayserispor, who have now signed him outright despite Istanbul-based giants Besiktas also reportedly being keen on a deal.

Mensah has won three caps for Ghana and has enjoyed previous loan stints at Getafe and Vitoria Guimaraes, having initially joined Atleti in a €6m deal.

“The player has been on loan to our team since last summer, and our contract ends at the end of the season,” explained Kayserispor president Erol Bedi last month.

“He has two more years of contract with Atletico Madrid and for us there is only one possibility, because we do not want another loan deal.

“We are in a position to negotiate for a permanent transfer, so we will speak to Atletico about this issue.”

It is unclear if a transfer fee was exchanged between the two clubs but he has penned a three-year deal at Kayserispor, as Marca confirm.
