Luka Modric agrees new Real Madrid contract

Luka Modric is set to extend his contract at Real Madrid until the summer of 2021 to end speculation over his future, report Marca.

It follows a report earlier this month in Cadena Cope which claimed Zinedine Zidane has personally informed the midfielder that he wants to be able to call on the Croatian beyond this summer.

The fresh report claims that because the former Tottenham midfielder won the 2018 Ballon d’Or, it triggered a clause in his previous contract that it could be renewed by a further year.

It continues that such news has not yet been confirmed only because of the run of bad results for Los Blancos, while a new contract for Toni Kroos was recently made official.

Italian side Inter went through a protracted transfer saga last year in their attempt to sign Modric but a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu now looks to be increasingly unlikely.

There is set to be somewhat of a squad overhaul at Madrid this summer after a hugely disappointing campaign but as yet no departures have been confirmed.
