Napoli return for Villarreal’s Pablo Fornals

Napoli have made a summer move for Villarreal midfielder Pablo Fornals of €26m, according to El Mundo Deportivo.

The report in the Catalan daily cites Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport as saying Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti is a fan of the player, while the club already have a Spanish contingent – Raul Albiol, Jose Callejon and Fabian Ruiz, who joined from Real Betis last summer.

Corriere dello Sport reported in February that the player has an agreement to join Napoli while Marca had also stated the two clubs had been locked in negotiations.

Back in November, Cadena Ser stated the 23-year-old rejected offers from Fulham and West Ham because he did not want to ‘abandon his team in the situation in which it is currently’.

Villarreal spent the entirety of their league campaign battling off the threat of relegation but with one match of the league season remaining, their safety is now guaranteed.

Arsenal and Tottenham have also previously been linked with a move for the former Malaga midfielder, who joined Villarreal in 2017.

Fornals has featured in 35 of Villarreal’s 37 La Liga matches to date, starting 28 of those but now may be set for a summer exit from the Yellow Submarine.
