Rayo Vallecano manager Paco Jemez hailed his side after their first league win against Real Madrid in 22 years, breathed life into their relegation battle.
Despite being without top scorer Raul de Tomas, who was ineligible against his parent club, Rayo dominated and are now six points from safety, with three games to go.
"Tonight was a spectacular performance, against one of the best sides in the world.
"Before this, I had never beaten Real Madrid before in my life.
"We knew we had to win tonight, or we were relegated and the players responded.
"We performed above ourselves and we still have a chance to remain in La Liga."
Rayo goal scorer Adri Embarba echoed his manager's comments by stating that Los Rojiblancos will continue to fight until the end of the season to survive.
