Filipe Luis ‘wants’ Atletico Madrid stay ‘but…’

Filipe Luis insists he ‘wants to stay’ at Atletico Madrid but his future ‘depends on the club’ with his contract expiring this summer.

The 33-year-old is out of contract at the Wanda Metropolitano this summer and has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona this summer to provide back-up for Jordi Alba.

“I hope I can continue next season, I want to and I already made it clear,” Luis has been cited as saying by Marca.

“I want to continue here. club, I want to stay but it's in the hands of the club. I'm enjoying the games that remain and hopefully I can convince them that I can stay.

“It depends on the club.”

The left-back started his career at Brazilian side Figueirense before moving to European football with a switch to Ajax in 2004 and has also enjoyed stints at Deportivo La Coruna and Chelsea.

Reports from his native country confirms an approach from the Catalan giants while Borussia Dortmund are also said to hold an interest in a potential move.
