Iago Aspas: Celta Vigo contract should end rumours

Celta Vigo striker Iago Aspas has revealed he penned a new deal at the club "to close the door to offers and rumours.”

The 31-year-old is an instrumental figure for the relegation-threatened side and he has extended his deal at Balaidos by two years, so that it is now set to expire in 2023.

“I am very happy to continue making history here, it is where I wanted to be and I want to thank the club,” Aspas said, in quotes cited by Marca.

“I want to continue to beat all possible records, that's why I signed this deal for four years, I want to continue playing many games and I would like to become the top scorer.

Although it is true that it is very difficult, but they have never made it easy for me.

“I have always said that this was my club, I am at home, with my family and with my friends, for me it is very important.

“There have always been offers and I'm sure there will continue to be rumours as well, but with this renewal I want to close the doors because I am very happy in the club.”

Aspas had missed three months of action with a calf problem, coinciding with his side’s form plummeting but netted five goals in three games since his return.

Celta Vigo are deep in relegation trouble, one point and one place from relegation with six games remaining in the 2018-19 La Liga season.

The Spain international has netted a remarkable 85 goals – 70 in La Liga – since rejoining the club in the summer of 2015.
