Barcelona favourites for Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt

Barcelona are increasingly confident of signing Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt this summer as Bayern Munich have cooled their interest, say Diario Sport.

The 19-year-old has been the captain of the Amsterdam-based club for over a year and has starred for club and country.

Widely regarded as one of the best upcoming talents in world football, the central defender is set to command a €75m fee from Ajax.

The Blaugrana are among the leading candidates to sign the Dutchman while Bayern and Juventus were also said to have a longstanding interest in the player.

Reports have claimed the Catalan giants are hopeful their agreed deal for de Ligt’s friend and teammate Frenkie de Jong will be enough to persuade the defender to join them.

ESPN FC said last month that the Blaugrana are optimistic over a deal for the teenager, despite his agent Mino Raiola set to meet Juve sporting director Fabio Paratici.

The Bianconeri are set to face Ajax over two legs of their upcoming Champions League quarter-final with the prospect of further opportunities to meet said to sway the defender towards Turin.

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf claimed over the weekend that the highly-rated central defender was likely to move to the Camp Nou this summer.
