Barcelona ‘fully focused’ on signing Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt

Barcelona are working hard to secure the signing of Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt this summer ahead of Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain, say Diario Sport.

The 19-year-old has been the captain of the Amsterdam-based club for over a year and has starred for club and country.

Widely regarded as one of the best upcoming talents in world football, the central defender is set to command a €75m fee from Ajax.

The report claims the Catalan giants are hopeful their agreed deal for de Ligt’s friend and teammate Frenkie de Jong will be enough to persuade the defender to join them.

ESPN FC said last week that the Blaugrana are optimistic over a deal for the teenager, despite his agent Mino Raiola set to meet Juve sporting director Fabio Paratici.

The Bianconeri are set to face Ajax over two legs of their upcoming Champions League quarter-final with the prospect of further opportunities to meet said to sway the defender towards Turin.
