Iago Aspas steps up return from injury

Celta Vigo have recieved a major boost in their bid to avoid La Liga relegation with the news that talisman Iago Aspas has stepped up his return from injury.

Aspas has endured an injury plagued season for his boyhood club, and the Galicians form has nosedived without him, currently down in 18th place and four points away from safety.

The Spanish international has played just 25 minutes of match action in 2019, however he broke down again during a substitute appearance against Getafe in February, with a long standing calf problem the cause.

The club has devised a specific training plan to get the former Liverpool man fit in time to play again before the end of the season, and he posted 'in the middle of pre-season' on an Instagram picure earlier this week, in reference to him training alone in the gym.

New manager Fran Escriba is unlikely to rush him back into the first team, but he has arranged a internal friendly against their U18 side, in a bid to boost Aspas' match fitness.

No return date has been confirmed by the club as yet, but Escriba would like to have him back in action for next weekend's key relegation battle at home to Villarreal.
