Fabian Ruiz contracted swine flu – reports

Former Real Betis midfielder Fabian Ruiz (pictured left) had to withdraw from the Spain squad because he contracted swine flu, according to reports.

The 22-year-old joined Napoli last summer in a €30m deal and his impressive displays this season led to a first senior international call-up for Spain’s Euro 2020 qualifiers against Norway and Malta.

However, the central midfielder had to withdraw from Luis Enrique’s squad due to suffering from the flu and subsequently having breathing difficulties.

It was confirmed on Thursday that he had been discharged following ‘a high fever and breathing problems’ and is expected to recover over the international break.

Il Mattino now report the player’s symptoms were caused by a bout of the H1N1 virus and which posed a risk of spreading to other teammates.

The former Los Verdiblancos midfielder has scored five goals in 28 appearances for the Partenopei this season.

Fabian was replaced in the Spain squad by Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.
