Casemiro: ‘Vinicius Junior cannot be blamed’

Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro has defended teammate and compatriot Vinicius Junior after Wednesday’s El Clasico loss.

The teenage forward led the line and enjoyed spectacular moments of skills alongside missing several opportunities as Madrid fell to a 3-0 defeat.

“It is not fair to speak about Vinicius after this match,” Casemiro told reporters, as cited by Marca.

“He is so brave, he is courageous and he shows these qualities on the pitch, he is never afraid and his level of play is amazing for someone who is his age.

“We cannot talk about our injuries and who wasn’t available, one week ago we were all talking about how Karim (Benzema) was the best nine in the world, but Cristiano Ronaldo has left too.

“We did not score but we created many opportunities and that is the encouraging aspect, we must continue to fight for our identity.

“We did not take our opportunities and were punished.”
