Berbatov: ‘Whipping Boy’ Bale should leave Real Madrid

Gareth Bale should leave Real Madrid if he continues to be under appreciated by the club, according to former teammate Dimitar Berbatov.

Bale has come in for criticism this season, as injury problems have reduced him to just 15 La Liga starts in 2018-19, and the former Bulgarian international believes the negativity towards the Welshman is unfair.

"Bale seems to be getting the blame for everything that goes wrong at Real Madrid – which is wrong.

"His stats this season are 12 goals from 30 appearances, he is performing, yet he is still the whipping boy.

"If you don't feel appreciated, then you have to move on", he told an interview with Betfair.

The former Tottenham man reached 100 club goals earlier this month, however he still remains the source of fan criticism, with a certain amount of skepticism surrounding him ever since his world record move to Spain in 2013.

He has been consistently linked with a return to the Premier League, however Berbatov is pragmatic about a return to Tottenham – where they played together between 2007 and 2009.

"It's a question of money of course and I don't think that Tottenham can over a hunderd million on a player.

"But Bale is a world class player and it would be great to see him back (in the Premier League)."
