Barcelona keen on De Ligt move

Barcelona are looking at bringing in Dutch defender Matthijs De Ligt from Ajax, just days after signing team mate Frenkie De Jong.

The 19 year-old central defender has earned rave reviews following his debut in 2016, becoming a mainstay of their defence in the last two seasons in the Eredivise.

According to reports in Marca this morning, the Catalan side are confident of securing a deal for De Ligt, after persuading De Jong to make the move to Spain, and reject the advances of Paris Saint Germain.

De Jong commented following his move to the Nou Camp that the history of the club and the project in place currently were amongst the deciding factors in edging him towards the reigning La Liga champions – and they hope a similar tactic will lure De Ligt.

Also the two players are firm friends and have consistently expressed a wish to play alongside each in their future careers, a factor that will boost Barcelona's cause.

De Ligt was interviewed earlier this week, following De Jong's switch, and he left the door open for a move of his own.

"Any player would like to go and play for Barcelona at some point in their career.

"Frenkie has already decided his future and it's great that he can go to Barcelona, he deserves it.

"We'll see where I end up."
