Villarreal boss downplays possibility of Pablo Fornals exit

Villarreal Coach Luis Garcia Plaza has downplayed suggestions that star midfielder Pablo Fornals could leave the club this month.

Marca have claimed Italian giants Napoli are interested in a deal for the 22-year-old, whose current contract contains a €25m release clause.

Back in November, Cadena Ser stated the 22-year-old rejected offers from Fulham and West Ham because he does not want to ‘abandon his team in the situation in which it is currently’.

Villarreal currently sit second from bottom in La Liga with just three wins from their 20 league matches to date this season, with only Huesca bellow them in the standings.

“I live a normal life with Fornals,” Garcia told reporters on Thursday.

“He’s training perfectly, as if nothing’s going on. Until something reaches me, I have no idea and the club have already said that there’s nothing at the moment.

“We’re working with complete normality and I see Pablo focused and involved.”

Arsenal have also previously been linked with a move for the former Malaga midfielder, who joined Villarreal in 2017.

Fornals has featured in all 20 of Villarreal’s La Liga matches to date, starting 19, while Napoli landed his compatriot Fabian Ruiz in a landmark €35m deal from Real Betis last summer.
