Real Madrid Coach Santiago Solari has praised ‘warrior’ Luka Modric following Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Sevilla in La Liga.
The Croatian midfielder added a late second goal for Los Blancos, who leapfrogged the Andalusian club into a top three spot in the table.
“Modric was outstanding for us in this game,” Solari raved after the match, in quotes carried by Marca.
“In the context of him sustaining a heavy cut on his eye, when he had to spend the entire of half-time getting it fixed, he was magnificent.
“He is a warrior in this team and scoring the goal at the end typifies his spirt and determination, everything that is good about the team, he put in a complete performance.
“This was a very difficult game against a Sevilla side who defend very well and have played at a good level all season, we knew it would be tough to break them down.
“There are many occasions when it does not feel like the ball will go into the net but we had to show our belief and attitude to ensure we did not drop point.
“We have a lot of players injured, returning from injuries and periods of being unavailable, so this was a difficult proposition for us.
“Last week we won at a difficult stadium too and now we have a run that we will want to keep going, because this was a victory over a direct rival.”
