Manchester City teenager Brahim Diaz ‘already has his head at Real Madrid’ and has chosen his squad number, according to Marca.
Diaz, 19, joined City’s youth system from Malaga in 2013 and has been reported to be likely to move on next summer, when his contract expires, unless he is given more first-team opportunities.
A report in Marca last week stated the two clubs had struck a €15m agreement for the player to move in January, after an initial €10m approach was rejected by City.
The report confirms the highly-rated teenager is set to become Madrid’s first January signing since their deal for Lucas Silva in the 2014/15 campaign while the attacker has already chosen the ‘number 21’ at Los Blancos.
Diaz netted twice in a rare start during a 2-0 League Cup victory over Fulham last month while he also featured against Leicester City in the same competition this month.
In summer, Diaz told El Mundo Deportivo: “My ambition is to play as much as I can, the more minutes you get the better you will be.”
City boss Pep Guardiola said after that victory over Fulham: “Brahim knows what we want for all of our young players.
“We want to protect them and to help them – that goes for him all of the players in the academy. We want him but it does not depend on us but it is up to the agent, to the player, to the family.”
