Real Valladolid president Ronaldo Nazario backs La Liga in US

Real Valladolid president Ronaldo Nazario has thrown his backing behind La Liga’s plans to stage fixtures in the United States.

The controversial plans have been met with opposition by a variety of governing bodies including FIFA, UEFA, The Spanish FA and the EFA Spanish Players Union.

“I am in favour but our fans are the ones who decide,” Ronaldo told reporters on Thursday, as cited by Diario AS.

“If it's good for the fans that we go to play a match abroad, to me it would seem a very interesting project for our club and our brand.

“Everything we do is for the progress of our project and Valladolid has to be recognised nationally and internationally.”

The league planned for January's meeting between Girona and Barcelona to be played in Miami but despite initially supporting the plans, Barca have withdrawn their backing in recent weeks.
