Atletico Madrid’s Koke: La Liga ‘tighter than ever’

Koke believes Atletico Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Barcelona proved ‘La Liga is tighter than ever and that makes it more attractive’.

Atleti looked to have won a scrappy encounter when Diego Costa scored with the game’s first attempt on target in the 77th minute, but Koke’s side were ultimately pegged back by a late Barca equaliser.

“It was a very tight match,” the midfielder said after the game.

“Nothing happened during the entire match, except for that breakaway, which Costa almost scored from.

“We went ahead and it’s a shame we couldn’t win. Barca are Barca, they have very good players who can make the difference.

“It’s very important that our strikers have goals in them, and Costa had the good fortune to score. It’s a shame that he went off injured.

“Even though he’s hurt, he wants to be available and he knows that he’s very important for us,

“He made a great effort on the field. When he felt he could no longer do that, he asked for the change.

“It was a 0-0 game, nothing happened in it. When you go ahead, you always want to win so it’s a shame about the draw, but I think it was a fair result.

“I saw a Barcelona side who defended very, very well. They had control of the game with the ball, but we were comfortable.

“La Liga is tighter than ever. That’s very important for the fans and that makes La Liga more attractive.”
